Sylvia Rhode

Sylvia Rhode, 84 of St. Louis Park, Minnesota died Sunday, March 27, 2016, at her home. Sylvia Lilly Braun was born on May 31, 1931, in Roseville Township MN, the daughter of Albert and Gladys Braun. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Sylvia grew up on the family farm and as a child loved to read by the light of a cherished kerosene lamp. She attended Country School by Erdahl, and then graduated from the Elbow Lake High School in 1949. Sylvia met Robert Rhode at a roller skating party and they married in 1950. Living first in Minneapolis, then in Chicago, they then settled in St Louis Park MN. She and Bob had six children, Peggy, Nancy, David, Robyn, Timothy and Becky. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and traveling. Robert and Sylvia later divorced. She later met Joseph Bell and welcomed her seventh child Joseph. Sylvia worked as caretaker of many children and enjoyed teaching them Nursery Rhymes. She loved her birds and favorite dog, Murphy. She is survived by six children, Peggy Kurtz of St. Louis Park, David (Debbie) Rhode of Buffalo, Robyn Rhode of St. Louis Park, Timothy (Cindy) Rhode of Hopkins, Becky (Scott) Rapue of Littleton, Colorado and Joseph (Jeanette) Rhode of Buffalo; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Gwen Haack of Hoffman, and Janet Enervold of Moorhead; brother, Harlan Braun of Wasilla, Alaska; and by numerous relatives and friends. Sylvia was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Karkhoff; parents, Albert and Gladys Braun; brother, Robert Braun; and grandchild Matthew Edblom.
