Steven Leis

Steven Dale Leis was a fantastically funny man, cracking jokes all the way to his last days. He passed away on January 19, 2022, at the Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. He had his wife, Leticia there supporting him.

An only child born of Ralph Christoff and Edna Wilhelmina (Fischer) Leis on February 28, 1947, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. His life centered on fixing things, making his little corner of the world better than he found it, whether it was through thousands of hours of gardening and pruning, inventing tools to make a job go easier, or his crowning achievement…. developing a car polish that could shine a car without having to wash it first. He made a great formula right away but soon realized he forgot to write the measurements down. After many more attempts, he finally found the sweet spot of ingredients that would become Wet Paint Automotive Polishing Glaze.

Before starting his own business with his wife, Leticia in 1987, his experience came from work at the family business, Leis Motors, for most of his young adult life. Steve’s work ethic also took him through the Navy, where he served from 1971 – 1974, in Glynco, Georgia. He managed to find love along the way, marrying Leticia from the Philippines, on September 9, 1986.

Steve was one of the most interesting people you would ever meet. His constant creativity shined in his passions as well as his work. When he wasn’t working, he livened up the world with his photographs and videos. Every caption, every narration, made each piece more alive and engaging. You cannot look through his work without cracking a lot of smiles and laughs along the way. His wit made for great conversation, and he will be missed and remembered by those who were close to him.

He is survived by his wife, Leticia, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his farther, Ralph, and his mother, Edna.

Visitation and lunch will be from 3:00 – 4:30 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake.  A Service will be held at 4:30 PM.
