Roy Randall

February 9, 1926 — March 9, 2019

Wendell, MN

Roy Randall passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Assisted Living in Ashby, MN at the age of 93 years.

Roy was born on February 9, 1926, to Edwin and Mabel (Erickson) Randall at their home in Grenora, North Dakota. He attended school in Grenora, and in the spring of 1944 was drafted into the Army. Roy was honorably discharged in the spring of 1946.

In the fall of 1946, Roy came to Wendell when his Uncle Selvin Randall had the Standard Oil Service Station. He went to work at Aamot Implement in the fall of 1947. On October 24, 1948, Roy married Mignon Aamot. After seven years of marriage they adopted their son Robert in 1955, and they adopted their daughter Lori in 1957. Robert and Lori brought so much joy and love into their lives. Robert and his wife Connie blessed Roy with four grandchildren - Lucas, Stefanie, Tanner and Nicole, whom he loved dearly (and they certainly loved their Grandpa). In the mid-1960’s, Roy went into partnership with Odell and Hanley Aamot where they all worked together until 1995 when they decided to retire.

Roy has been a member of the American Legion since 1946, serving as Commander twice. He is a charter member of the Wendell Lions since it was chartered in 1976. Roy received the Melvin Jones Award in 1992. He was a member of the Wendell Fire Department for 39 years (1947-1986) and served as Fire Chief for two or three years. In the mid-1970’s Roy served as mayor of Wendell. He and Mignon received an award from the Grant County Farm Bureau for community service in 1995. In 1975, Roy was a member of the Wendell Development Corporation when they were trying to develop a mini-mall on the north side of Main Street. He was very involved in building the very unique Wendell Veterans Memorial, something that the community can be very proud of. Roy also served on the Board of the Grant County Veterans Memorial in Elbow Lake. When Roy and Mignon were selected to be the Grand Marshalls for Wendell’s 125th Anniversary in July 2012, they were very honored and humbled to be chosen.

Roy has been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since 1947 where he served in many capacities including the treasurer. He also videotaped the Sunday service for Runestone Telcom and helped wherever he could.

Preceding Roy in death was his wife and best friend Mignon; daughter Lori, who died in 1992; his parents Ed and Mabel Randall; brothers James and Duane Randall; James’ wife Lenora (we always called her “Lony”); and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include his son Robert (Connie) and four grandchildren, Lucas (Heidi), Stefanie, Tanner (Hayley) and Nicole Randall, all from Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Kay (Burdean) Rogness from Eden Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to the Trinity Cemetery Fund, the Wendell Veterans Memorial or the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
