Ralph Stockdill

July 11, 1916 — January 30, 2010

Norton Stockdill, 93, of Hoffman, died Sat., Jan. 30, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hoffman. Funeral service is 11:00 am Wed., Feb. 3, at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman with the Rev. Elaine Leone officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Solem Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington.

Norton was born July 11, 1916, to Ralph and Blanche (Hagen) Stockdill in Barrett. He married Lorraine Henning on October 23, 1937. Norton remained an active member of Solem Church. He farmed and worked in road construction for many years. Also, he worked with the Vernal Nelson family preparing turkeys for market. In his late 60s, he became a ski-lift operator, a position he held for 18 years, at Andes Tower Hills. He turned his tinkering with motors into a passion for restoring tractors. Norton, along with Paul Anderson, participated in numerous tractor shows. Norton enjoyed telling jokes. It made him happy to see people laugh. He found great joy in snowmobiling with his wife and grandchildren as well as hunting and fishing. Norton is survived by his son, Rome (Betsy) Stockdill of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren Reid (Julie) Stockdill of Yorktown, VA, and Randi Stockdill of Boynton Beach, FL; great granddaughter, Macey; brother, James (Joyce) Stockdill of Boulder, CO; a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and their children. He was preceded in death by Lorraine, his loving wife of 68 years, his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
