Peggy Nordby died at the Barrett Care Center on Friday, August 21, 2009. Funeral services for Peggy Nordby will be held at 10am Saturday, August 29, at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake with Pastor Matthew Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Wendell. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday at the Funeral Home. Peggy was born on June 23, 1947, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Ole and Anna (Asleson) Karlstad of Wendell. She grew up and attended school in Wendell and Elbow Lake. In 1964, Peggy was united in marriage to Paul Olaf Nordby, and the couple farmed near Campbell until 1970, when they moved to Chicago. In 1975, they moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, where Peggy worked at the Owatonna Nursing Home. She was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary. She moved to Barrett in 1986 and was employed at the Hoffman Good Samaritan Center until 1988, when she was forced to retire because of health concerns. She became a resident of the Barrett Care Center in 2001. Peggy enjoyed playing Dominos and cards and bowling. She enjoyed collecting bells and listening to country music. A fan of Elvis, she had even visited Graceland. She is survived by her sons Mike (Renee) Nordby of Northfield, Gary (Dorothy) Nordby of Oceanside, CA, Robert (Rachel) Nordby of Bangor, WI, and Andrew (Krista) Nordby of Owatonna, and 12 grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters Marian Pederson of Barrett, Joyce Knodle of Fergus Falls, Judy Erickson of Kensington, and Barbara Weeks of Ft. Calhoun, NE, and brothers Warren (Martha) Karlstad of rural Barrett and David Karlstad of Duluth. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Duane Karlstad, sister Kathryn Watne, and one grandson, David Hernandez.
