Michael Ruud

Michael Glenn Ruud, 46, of Long Prairie, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Bethlehem/West Elbow Lake Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake with the Rev. Weston Moir officiating. Visitation will be at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake, on Monday, December 30, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Visitation resumes at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Mike was born on December 18, 1967, to Don and Pearl Ruud. He attended school in Elbow Lake, Rothsay, and graduated from Baudette High School. He attended Alexandria Technical College where he graduated from the Tool and Die Program and worked at Alexandria Extrusion for over 20 years. Mike was married to Laura Brinkman and they have one son, Nathan. In 2008, Mike chose to pursue a new career in driving semi. He owned and operated his own truck as an independent driver. Mike had many hobbies, most of them involving engines! He loved to restore classic vehicles, and he and Nathan spent many hours rebuilding their vehicles. Mike also enjoyed target shooting, watching hockey, camping, curling, riding motorcycle, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his son Nathan Ruud of Jamestown, North Dakota; his special partner Linda Hallisey of Long Prairie; his parents Pearl Ruud of Long Prairie and Don (LaVonne ) Ruud of Fergus Falls; siblings Deb (Doug) Rapp and Scott (Joyce) Ruud, all of Elbow Lake; and a large blanket of family and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his brother Tim and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
