Margaret Olsen, 91, of the Good Samaritan Home in Hoffman, and formerly of Westbrook, died Friday, April 10, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Home. Funeral services for Margaret Olsen will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Burial will be in Westbrook Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chuch on Wednesday.

She was born May 2, 1918, in Germany and baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 25, 1934, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Rosehill Township near Storden, Minnesota. She attended school through the eighth grade in Dundee, Minnesota. Although Margaret wanted to attend high school, the walk was too far. She moved to Westbrook and worked on a farm doing housework. She also worked at Lichty Drug and was a waitress at the Stevens CafAC.. On January 14, 1946, Margaret was united in marriage to Menard Olsen at Westbrook. To this union, three children were born: Carol, Marlene, and Gary. She and Menard farmed in Dovray Township all of their married life where she kept busy raising and cleaning chickens and selling eggs. Margaret had a servants' heart, was a "taxi cab" driver for those needing a ride, involved in WELCA activities, bible study, the hospital auxiliary unit, gardening, reading, and playing games. She taught many how to play Chinese Checkers. She loved her children and grandchildren. She loved and personally knew the Lord in a very quiet way and spent a lot of time in prayer. She loved the church and the word of the Lord. Survivors include one daughter, Marlene (Dan) Chell of Minot, North Dakota; nine grandchildren: Matt (Gretchen) Chell of Albertville, Minnesota, Tim (Stephanie) Chell of Minot, Jon (Tanya) Winter and Tom (Leigh) Winter of Hoffman, Tony (Amy) Winter of Corcoran, Paul (Heather) Winter of Papillion, Nebraska, Jennifer and Lisa Olsen of St. Charles, and Sheila (Lance) Larson of Springfield; eleven great-grandchildren: Aiden, Ireland, Quinten and Teagen Winter, Lissa and Drew Winter, Aspen and Natasha Winter, and Kaiya and Allie Chell, and expecting four additional great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Menard, daughter Carol Winter and son-in-law Dennis Winter, son Gary Olsen and daughter-in-law Brenda Olsen.
