Mae Bjorgan

Mae I. Bjorgan, 93, Barrett, died Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake Mae Irene Larson Bjorgan was born to Henry and Bertina Larson in Owego Township, Ransom County, North Dakota, on June 4, 1920. She married Thorwald "Shorty" Bjorgan on April 6, 1937. Mae had great home-making skills. She was an accomplished baker, specializing in making beautiful cookies, always delicious, always perfect, always using only real butter. She was also an excellent cook, after Shorty taught her all he knew about cooking. We will miss her chokecherry jelly. No one ever left Mae's home hungry. Mae also created beautiful embroidered and crocheted linens. Her children and grandchildren treasure the pillow cases and dish towel sets she lovingly made for them over the years. Mae liked to come up with humorous "zingers" to get as many smiles and as much reaction as possible. And she was very good at it. Music was an important part of Mae's life, and she and Shorty entertained for many events and gatherings over the years. After Shorty's death, she continued to play piano and to share her beautiful voice throughout her life. Survivors include her children Beverly (Ed) Williams of Elbow Lake, Irene (Dick) Schroeder of Dilworth, Minnesota, Mavis (Tim) Bitz of Libby, Montana, and Kay (Lyndon) Kratochwill of Ashby; sisters Hazel Lester of Oklahoma and Nora Ann (Ernest) Carter of Lisbon, North Dakota; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, Thorwald "Shorty" Bjorgan, five brothers, eight sisters and one grandson. Funeral: 10:00 am Friday, September 27, 2013, Grace Evangelical Free Church, Elbow Lake Clergy: Rev. Gabriel Norton Burial: 3:00 pm St. Paul Cemetery, Lisbon, North Dakota Visitation: 5-7 pm Thursday, Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake; resumes at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday morning
