Lyle Olson

Lyle Willard Olson 91, of Evansville went to his heavenly home March 27, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born to Charlie & Ida (Ellingson) Olson on October 23, 1934, in Fergus Falls MN. Baptized November 26, 1934, and confirmed in his Lutheran faith on Palm Sunday at Our Saviors Church in 1949. March 6, 1957, married Janice Zarn at Our Saviors Church.

Lyle attended district #52 Country School through 8th grade and graduated from Evansville High School in 1952. After graduation he farmed until he entered the Navy in 1955.

He had many jobs before retiring from Douglas County Highway Department. He worked at the Barrett Elevator, road construction with Zimmermans, was a laborer and crane operator for Carlson Construction, 3M (factory work was not his thing). After his retirement from the county highway department, he went to work with Ness Excavating until 2012.

He was a hard worker, enjoyed life and loved the outdoors and nature. Always doing something, fixing anything and everything. He loved hunting, doing woodworking and could keep any old car or tractor running. Gardening was a must, even though he didn’t get the potatoes planted on Good Friday. Always had a dog beside him and enjoyed a cold beer at night.

Lyle enjoyed his family and was so grateful to be a great grandpa.

He is survived by his wife Janice of 69 years,daughters: Debra (Alan) Johnson, Julie Aasness, Michele (Mark) Swift and son: Jason Olson. Grandchildren: Christopher Johnson, Erin (Matt) Nutsvold, Nicole (Adam) Gack, Brant (Stephanie) Aasness, Hannah (Dallas) Bordson, Rachel Aasness (Shaun Johnson), Justin (Jodi) Swift.

Great Grandchildren: Layne & Carter Johnson, Jack & Haylie Wahlin, Levi & Piper Gack, Royce, Huxley, Alice & Louisa Aasness, Iola & Berdie Bordson, Edith, Theo, Thor & Esther Johnson, Levi & Logan Swift and Elizabeth Olson. Nieces and nephew: Charlotte Rohloff, Gordon (Lynette) Rohloff & Laurel Border. Brothers-in-law: Dennis (Carolyn) Zarn & Michael Zarn and sister in-law: JoAnn Zarn.

Proceeding him: parents Charlie & Ida Olson, in-laws Robert & Dorothy Zarn, sister & brother in-law Minnetta & Ted Rohloff, son in-law Terry Aasness, sister-in-law Carol Thoennes and bother-in-law Daryl Zarn.

Lyle will be missed, but his endless gift of love and pranks will sustain us until we meet again.

A Celebration of Life is planned on June 27, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Somedays in Evansville.
