Celebrating the Life of Lowell Steven Koebernick Sr.
October 14, 1947 – May 28, 2026
Lowell Steven Koebernick Sr., age 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on May 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. After a life defined by dedicated service to his country and a fierce devotion to his family, he has been reunited with his beloved wife, Lynn.
A Foundation of Faith and Service
Lowell was born on October 14, 1947, in Lake of the Woods, MN, to Steve and Helen Koebernick. One of nine children, he grew up with a strong sense of community and faith. He was raised and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackduck, MN, and graduated from Blackduck High School in 1967. That same year, Lowell answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany, beginning a distinguished military career. Upon returning home, he pursued higher education at Bemidji State University, earning his Bachelor’s degree. Lowell ultimately dedicated 32 years to military service, retiring proudly from the National Guard in 2004. He was also a proud, life-long member of the American Legion Post 29.
A Lifetime of Love and Hard Work
On May 21, 1969, Lowell married the love of his life, Lynn Tverstol, in the very same church where he was confirmed. Together, they shared 51 beautiful years of marriage and raised five children. Lowell was a man of many talents and a tireless worker. Throughout his career, he worked for CETA (a government unemployment agency) across Bemidji, Mora, and Plummer; owned and operated a cafe in Badger; worked as a real estate agent; and served as a full-time National Guard Recruiter in Blackduck and Morris. Though they lived in various towns throughout their journey, Lowell and Lynn made their final, permanent home in Morris, MN. Following Lynn’s passing in 2016, and subsequent health concerns, Lowell found comfort and a welcoming home with his daughter, Shannon.
A Legacy of Devotion
Above all professional accolades, Lowell’s true masterpiece was his family. His selflessness was evident early on when, following the passing of his parents, he stepped up to care for his two teenage brothers. That spirit of helpfulness never wavered; he was always the first to show up for his children, whether it was helping them move or offering quiet support. In his free time, Lowell loved the simple pleasures of life: gardening, fishing below the Pomme de Terre dam, going on cherished bingo dates with Lynn, cooking for his family, and gathering with his large, vibrant family.
His final days were a beautiful reflection of the love he planted throughout his life. His home was filled with laughter, smiles, and endless warmth as he held his great-grandchildren, shared hugs with his many visiting grandchildren, and spent precious time with his children. The family extends their deepest gratitude to his wonderful hospice and home health team, who truly became family and made his last year incredibly comfortable.
Family Left to Cherish His Memory
Lowell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynn; his parents, Steve and Helen; four brothers; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews. His legacy lives on through his five children:
● Shannon (Scott) Boettcher
● Lowell Jr. (Missy) Koebernick
● Jason (Denise) Koebernick
● Aaron (Amber) Koebernick
● Genette (Mike) Koebernick
He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Rick, Rachel, Ryan, Mariah, Cody, Chelsey, Courtney, Gwen, Jordan, Jemma, Connor, Cameron, Ashton, Allison, Jayden, and Vera; and his two adored great-grandchildren, Marvin and Conrad.
Lowell’s signature smile, a warm "Hey, Bud" or "Hi, You," his easy laugh, and his generous heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
