LeMay Thorstad

LeMay Thorstad, 85 of rural Kensington, died Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Barrett Care Center. LeMay Alvin Thorstad was born on May 6, 1928, near Hoffman, Minnesota, the son of Burney and Cora (Munson) Thorstad. He was baptized and confirmed in the Land Lutheran Church in Hoffman and attended rural school District #49 in Land Township through the eighth grade. LeMay entered the U.S.Army in 1949 where he served for three years, first on the island of Guam, then the last eight months as an MP with the infantry in Korea. Maynard, Orville and LeMay served in Korea, during the Korean War, at the same time. After his discharge he worked for various farmers in Minnesota and Montana. LeMay and Lillian were married in 1965. After their marriage they lived by Kensington and later moved to the Oscar Lake area. LeMay was a carpenter and always did some farming. He loved to fish, hunt and trap, especially mink, and was definitely an outdoorsman. He was a member of the Land Lutheran Church and now a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. LeMay also belonged to the Hoffman American Legion and the Morris VFW. He is survived by one sister, Ruth Star of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Earl B. Thorstad and Maynard (Carol) Thorstad, both of Hoffman, and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Myles, Eugene, Orville and Kenneth Thorstad; four sisters, Irene Westberg, Bernice Boerner, Lois Schmidt and Genieva Thorstad.
