Larry Melvin Quiggle, age 81, passed away quietly at the Barrett Care Center on Saturday, November 23, 2019.
Larry was born on October 27, 1938, in Fairmont, MN to Marvin and Opal (Squire) Quiggle. He was the oldest of five children.
From an early age, Larry had a love for music. He began piano lessons at a young age and was involved in drama and singing as well. By the time Larry graduated from high school, in Independence, IA, he was an accomplished pianist, winning awards from recitals and the high school boy’s glee club.
After graduating high school, Larry married Dee (Simon) Quiggle on March 7, 1959 and shortly after that enlisted in the Army. After boot camp in Colorado, he and Dee moved to Minneapolis, MN. Shortly after the birth of Kim, he was transferred to Greece. While there, Kenton was born. While Larry was in the service, he sustained an injury and was honorably discharged and returned to the U.S., where their child Kristi was born.
Larry spent many years working as a credit manager, but it was his love of ministry that was his true passion.
Wherever Larry was, he made friends. Larry never knew a stranger.
In more recent years, Larry and Dee moved to Tennessee to be closer to some of their kids and grandkids. While there, he was an associate pastor at Gateway Christian Fellowship and later a senior pastor. In 2008, due to his declining health, Larry retired, and he and Dee moved back to Minnesota.
As adults, he and Dee were very actively involved in their churches, in choirs, worship teams, and teaching Sunday School and young married classes.
Larry and Dee have called Barrett, MN their home for the last year and a half.
Larry loved to travel, spend time with family and friends, going out to eat and was known for being a prankster. You could always count on joke or being scared out of your skin by him jumping out of a closet or behind something. On a more serious note, Larry loved the Lord and studying the Word. Larry was always one to befriend somebody in need and it wasn’t unusual to have extra faces around the dinner table. Larry never wanted anyone to be alone.
Preceding him in death were his parents. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Delores (Dee); daughter, Kimberly (Tom) Anderson of Barrett, MN; son, Kenton (Sue) Quiggle of Coon Rapids, MN and daughter, Kristi (Sam) Mullins of Mt. Juliet, TN.
He is survived by 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
Larry is survived by a brother, Doyle Quiggle and sisters, Sierra Sassen, Lynnea Smith and LaFonda Schreve.
Services for Larry will be held Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 2pm, at Osseo United Methodist Church, 16 2nd Ave SE, Osseo, MN with son-in-law, Sam Mullins presiding. A visitation will be held one hour prior. Military honors will follow the service.
