Katherine Wiese

Katherine Rose Wiese, 78, of rural Elbow Lake, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake from complications of diabetes and liver disease. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, Elbow Lake, with Fr. Ron Schmelzer officiating. Burial will be in St. Loretto's Cemetery, Elbow Lake. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Tuesday at St. Olaf Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday one hour before the Mass. Katherine, known by most everyone as Katy, was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, on July 21, 1933, to Benjamin and Thora (Harstad) DeLagoon. She grew up on a farm near Fergus Falls, which is now DeLagoon Park, and attended country school at District 28, and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1950. In 1951, she was united in marriage to Donald Wiese, and they made their home near Elbow Lake where they farmed. Katy had a great love for her flower and vegetable gardens and took great pride in showing them to everyone who stopped by. She also loved doing puzzles, sewing and quilting. Two years ago, she made a quilt for each one of her children. Katy was a great cook and could make most anything, but come the holidays, her specialty was pies. Her greatest love was her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Olaf Catholic Church in Elbow Lake. Katy is survived by Donald, her husband of 60 years, and her five children, Linda (Lonnie) Olson of Elbow Lake, Kristi (Larry) Biss of Wendell, Debra (Tom) Jennen of Fergus Falls, Tim (Sue) Wiese of Elbow Lake, and Shelly (Ron) Johnson of Alexandria; 11 grandchildren, Lacey (Ben) Olson, Ryan (Tina) Biss, Cory (Stacy) Biss, Matt (Erica) Jennen, Brent (Tiffany) Jennen, Rachel (Keith) Leier, Derek Jennen, Taylor Wiese, Aaron Wiese, Kaden Johnson, and Kinzie Johnson; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Frans (Terri) DeLagoon of Auburn, Washington, and Ben DeLagoon of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law Dorothy Westrom of Elbow Lake; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary (Vern) Anderson; and one brother, Phillip DeLagoon.
