Joyce Gingerich

November 17, 1927 — June 25, 2014

Joyce Verona Gingerich, age 86, born November 17, 1927, in Moorhead, Minnesota, passed away at the Barrett Care Center on June 25, 2014. Preceded in death by husband, Jim Gingerich; brother, Verlyn Schwarck; and parents, Louie & Lena Schwarck. Joyce grew up on a farm just north of Elbow Lake. After high school graduation, Joyce worked for the Pentagon in Washington D.C. She was united in marriage to Jim Gingerich on October 3, 1947 and spent the rest of her life in Elbow Lake. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, church circle and homemakers club, past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and founding Leader of the Elbow Lake Sparklers 4-H club. She worked as a Nurses Aide at the Elbow Lake hospital for over 30 years and also belonged to the hospital auxiliary. During her retirement she worked as a Greeter at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home. She loved canning, sewing, searching for treasures at garage sales, many types of arts and crafts and her favorite, gardening. If Joyce were driving in the countryside, she would pick cattails and bittersweet to use in her creative and beautiful bouquets. Later during her life, she enjoyed traveling on bus trips with her husband, Jim. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Joyce will be remembered for her cheerful disposition and her dimpled smile. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cheryl Yano of Minneapolis, Diane (Dr. Jim) Gayes of Naples, Florida, Chuck (Carla) Gingerich of Moorhead, Mick (Jackie) Gingerich of Minnetonka; 6 grandchildren, Travis of Minneapolis, Matthew (Michelle) of Boston, Christopher (Susan) of Denver, Adam (Lisa) of Moorhead, Kathryn & Aaron of Minnetonka; 4 great grandchildren, Joshua & Laura of Moorhead, Cecileia & Emileia of Boston. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family extends special gratitude to the Barrett Care Center staff for their professional care and loving kindness they extended to our mother.
