Helen Groneberg

February 1, 1921 — July 28, 2014

Helen was born to Albert and Frieda (Pasche) Piepenburg, February 1, 1921, at home on the farm in Horton Township, Stevens County. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township. Helen attended country school and graduated from Morris High School. She pursued her lifelong passion to become a teacher by completing teacher's training in Wheaton and teaching country school 1 year.

On June 6, 1945, Helen married Erwin Groneberg, custom harvester and farmer. Their 69 years together began on a farm near Norcross and continued on a farm near Hoffman for 66 years. Most recently, they lived at 4th Avenue Homes in Morris.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She enthusiastically supported her children in school academics and nurtured their faith and personal growth. At Zion Lutheran Church in Hoffman she taught Sunday School for 25 years and was an active member of Ladies Aid. Helen enjoyed reading, writing, playing the piano, gardening, bird watching, sewing, quilting, canning, freezing, cooking, baking and traveling. She diligently made 'Jesus Loves Me' banners, journaled life's joys and struggles, sent cards and letters, and was a devoted prayer warrior.

Helen Marie Groneberg (Piepenburg), 93, reached her heavenly home July 28, 2014. Most important was her unfailing love and devotion to her Savior and then to her family.

Helen is survived by her husband, Erwin Groneberg, of Morris; children: Paul (Sandy) Groneberg of Hoffman, Carol (Larry) Voorhees of Knoxville, TN, Janet (Keith) Bergerson of Mankato, Ginny (Mike) Backman of Benson, Dave Groneberg (special friend, Danielle) of Plymouth; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Nathan (Rita) Groneberg, Ellia & Autumn, Michael (Jaclyn) Groneberg, Owen & Alexander, Amy (special friend, Chad) Groneberg, Luke (Gina) Voorhees, Parker & Clayton, Kimberly Voorhees (special friend, Jesse), Jill (Jeff) Trei, Alexandra, Eric (Hanh) Bergerson, Isaac & Cyrus, Anna (Andrew) Motzko, Brody, Ahren Backman; and many nieces and nephews.
