Helen Brandvold

Helen Brandvold, 92 of Elbow Lake died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Evansville Care Center. Helen Marie Brandvold was born on November 14, 1922, rural Elbow Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Dick and Gertrude (Frikken) Woltjer. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Dalton, and attended the Ten Mile Lake Country School.

Helen and Orlan Brandvold were married on November 4, 1944, in the church parsonage in Elbow Lake. After their marriage they farmed in Pomme de Terre Township, raising grain and livestock. Helen was employed with the Grant County Memorial Hospital in Elbow Lake in the housekeeping department, and then worked many years with the Ashby Equity Produce. She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening and raising chickens. In September of 1988, Helen and Orlan retired and moved into Elbow Lake. They spent many hours volunteering at the Senior Center along with delivering meals for the Nutrition Center. Orlan passed away on December 4, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Albertsen of Elbow Lake; and by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlan; parents, Dick & Gertrude, and three siblings, Elizabeth Demaree, Fred Woltjer and William Woltjer.
