Hazel Foss, 89, Elbow Lake, died Wed., Jan. 13, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.

Services: 11am Mon., Jan. 18, Rock Prairie Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake

Burial: Ness Cemetery, Elbow Lake

Visitation: 2-5 Sunday, Erickson-Smith Funeral Home, Elbow Lake, 4pm prayer service; one hour prior to service

Hazel was born on June 29, 1920, to Gilbert and Sigrid (BA�rseth) Bordson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Ness Lutheran Church and attended school in District 54, Pomme de Terre Township. She worked at Olson's CafAC. in Elbow Lake before her marriage. On October 30, 1949, Hazel was united in marriage to Ole M. Foss by the Rev. O. G. Aasen at Ness Lutheran Church. They farmed for eighteen years before moving into Elbow Lake. Hazel was a member of Rock Prairie Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid, taught Sunday school and worked with the quilters. As a young farm wife she belonged to Homemakers and PTA. Following their move to Elbow Lake she was involved with the Sister City Organization and the Wendell American Legion Auxiliary. She worked at the Grant County Hospital for 22 years.

After retirement Hazel sang with the "Kitchen Notes" and enjoyed their entertaining visits to area nursing homes and various community events. She participated with Ole in Norwegian Bygdelags, attending annual stevnes and visiting ancestral areas of Norway. She made seven trips to Norway to visit her extended family.

Hazel had a passion for quilting and made quilts for all of her family members. Her sixteen grandchildren all received a quilt from Grandma for their high school graduation.

Hazel is survived by her children Dr. Gordon (Beth) Foss of Huron, SD, Sandra (Tom) Hendrickson of Lakeville, Harriet (Barret) Wicklund of Fergus Falls, Tom (De-Lores) Foss of Ramsey, and Betty (Jay) Johnson of Elbow Lake; 16 grandchildren, Heather (David) Orser, Eric (Katherine) Hendrickson, Nicholas (Savang) Hendrickson, Charles (Kristy) Wicklund, Randi (Kevin) Tuma, Michael Wicklund, Helle, Berit, Kari, John, Marie (fiance Greg), Sonja, and Paul Foss, Lesli, Mitchell, and Leah Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Siri, Gavin, and Bridget Orser, Mason, Sydney, and Haakon Hendrickson; one sister, Bernice Lindblom of Elbow Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ole, a sister, Rosella Vigen, and a brother, Sidney Bordson.
