Gordon Leraas

Gordon Joseph Leraas, age 91, of Barrett, went home to the Lord His Saviour on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at St. Cloud Hospital due to a major stroke. Visitation will be Sunday, July 20, 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Hoffman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21 at Lincoln Lutheran Church, 18259 Cty Rd 5, rural Barrett with Pastor Kathryn Rothman officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Lutheran Church Cemetery. Gordon was born to Anton and Clara (Hjesedal) Leraas on September 7, 1922 in Alamo, North Dakota. As a young man Gordon trained his horse to do tricks and appeared in local rodeos. He also performed spinning rope tricks and, of course, played cowboys songs. He married Betty Lohse in 1950. Gordon and Betty farmed near Barrett and raised five daughters. He also worked for the ASCS agency and as a township assessor for many years as well as playing guitar and singing in country western dance bands in the area. Betty passed away after nearly 38 years of marriage in 1988. He was married to Leora (Lee) Belinger from 1994 until her death in 2004. Gordon is survived by his daughters, Bonnie Leraas, Barrett; LouAnn (Thomas) Benham, Brooklyn Park; Linda (Steven) Ray, Monticello; Cheryl (Wayne) Nelson, Cambridge; and Lynette (Marc) Moen, Alexandria. Grandchildren, Jesse (Tammy) Leraas and Jenny Leraas; Nicholas and Stefanie Benham; Eric Ray; Alison (Dave) Williams, Syliva (Nate) Hager; Ashley (Adam) Little and Kaitlyn Moen. Great-grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, Jack and Amelia Leraas; Ian, Jaron, Liberty, Grace, Hope, Mercy, Joseph, Faith, and Daniel Williams; Eliza and Adelae Hager; and Henry Little; Sister, Adeline Leraas, Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by parents, wives, Betty and Lee, grandson, Jason Ray and great-grandson Tenney Little.
