Gladys Kleinsasser

April 3, 1922 — February 21, 2016

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 21st, 2016, Gladys passed away peacefully at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN. at 1:02 pm, surrounded by family. She was 93 years old. Gladys Justina Kleinsasser was born April 3, 1922 near Bridgewater, SD.She was the first daughter of Paul J. and Susanna Hofer.She was baptized at the Hutterthal Mennonite Church. She graduated from Menno High School and attended Southern State Teachers College at Springfield, SD. She taught rural schools in Hutchinson and Spink County in South Dakota. She was married to John J. Kleinsasser in Chicago, IL. on October 18, 1941 at the Gospel Mission by Rev. John S. Mendel. Gladys's father Paul was killed in an auto accident in 1927 when she was 5 years old. Her twin Sisters, Irene and Maurine, died when they were 3 months old. Gladys's mother Susanna died when she was 11 years old. She and her brother Samuel W. Hofer, after their parents died, lived with their grandmother Barbara Hofer, Uncle Sam J. Hofer, and Aunt Sarah Hofer. Gladys and John lived in several communities over the years. Chicago IL, Huron SD, Tyndall, SD, Lake Norden, SD, and Hoffman, MN. Gladys was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, MN. She was also a member of the Adult Choir, played piano for Junior Choir and taught Sunday School. Gladys enjoyed helping John in the garden and tending to their flowers. She was a wonderful cook and housekeeper. Her children and grandchildren still talk about her famous apple pies and home-made dinner buns. Gladys was a stay at home mom. We have fond memories of her delicious evening meals together as a family. Gladys is survived by two daughters Beverly and her husband Roger Salonen, Glenwood, MN; Jelene and her husband Duane Nachreiner, Springfield, MN; a brother Rev. Samuel W. and his wife Joyce Hofer, Mountain Home, AR. There are also seven grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and three nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Hoffman with Pastor Nathan Thompson officiating.
