Evelyn "Evy" McNeice, 81, of Elbow Lake, passed away on Friday, February 27,2009, at the ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake. Friends may call for an open house at the United Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake, on Sunday, March 1, 2009, from 3-5:00, with lunch being served, followed with a Remembrance Service at 5:00P.M. Burial will take place in the at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake. Evelyn was born to Harold and Annie (Gilbertson) Hartman in St. Olaf Township, rural Dalton, Minnesota, on September 3, 1927. She attended school at Dalton, Minnesota and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1945. She attended the Minneapolis School of Business, after which time she was employed in administrative, financial, legal secretarial, bookkeeping, and clerical positions in Minneapolis, Washington DC, Seattle, Washington, and Fergus Falls and Elbow Lake, Minnesota. Along with those positions, Evie was forever a caretaker for whomever needed a helping hand. This included doing foster care and caring for the elderly and disabled. Evelyn married John Robert McNeice on September 3, 1954, in Kokomo, Indiana. They had three daughters before John died in 1962. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and was a faithful member all her life. She went to join the church triumphant on Friday, February 27, 2009. She leaves behind three very grateful daughters, Terry (Randy Larson) McNeice of Bloomington, Gail (Dean) Schneeberger of Elbow Lake, Lisa (Kurt) Pikop of Elbow Lake; eight grandchildren, Whitney Larson, Taylor Larson, Lindsay (Justin) Miller, Brady Schneeberger, Liza (Matthew) Long, Katy Pikop, Megan (Dillon) Nelson, and Jonathan Pikop; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, George (Lorella) Hartman of Dalton; a sister, Helen Martinson of Fergus Falls; a sister-in-law, Dorothy McNeice Crosbie of New Orleans, Louisiana; cousins Joyce Gingerich and Lee (Elizabeth) Hartman; Special Angel Next Door, Karen Hotovec, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John.
