Edith Hedstrom

Edith Lenora (Hotvedt) Hedstrom, 98, passed away July 11, 2014 at the Trinity Suites in Farmington, Minnesota. Edith was born December 24, 1915 in Solem Township in Grant County, Minnesota to Henry and Lizzie (Gunderson) Hotvedt, the third of nine children. Edith was baptized and confirmed at Solem Lutheran Church and attended country school through 8th grade. On September 11, 1937 Edith was married to Herman Hedstrom at the West Moe Parsonage. The couple farmed in Land Township in Grant County from 1941 to 1973 and then moved to Hoffman. Herman passed away on December 20, 1991. Edith was a member of the Wild Rose Rebekah Lodge #31 in Herman, Minnesota and former member of Lands Lutheran Church. She was involved in the Ladies Aide and was a helper during Vacation Bible School. She is a current member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Women of ELCA in Hoffman. Edith loved fishing and enjoyed traveling in their motor home. Edith was a good cook and baker, especially her home made buns, doughnuts, chocolate cake and date bars. She liked to play whist and was a fan of the Minnesota Twins. She enjoyed sewing, making block patch quilts, and did a lot of button holes for the neighbor ladies. She especially enjoyed her granddaughters and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children, Curtis of Burnsville, Minnesota, Karen (Gary) Gralow of Surprise, Arizona, and Keith of Mayesville, South Carolina; three granddaughters, Heather Hanson, Seattle, Washington, Rachelle (James) Slaikeu of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Colleen (Dan) Emerson of Farmington, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Slaikeu, Aliyah Emerson, Hannah Slaikeu and Blake Emerson; one brother, Merlyn (Cathy) Hotvedt of Plymouth, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Verna Hotvedt of Hanover Park, Illinois; along with many nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Herman and her parents; two daughters-in-law, Dianne and Aggie; two sisters, Ethel Thue and Anna Mae Heintzelman, and five brothers, Orren, Howard, Kenneth, Bennie and Harlan.
