Dorothy Hulzebos

Dorothy Hulzebos, age 89, of Hoffman, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Steven's Home Plus, Barrett, MN. Dorothy Helen DeWitte, the second of six children, was born to John and Helen (Brinkmeyer) DeWitte on March 24, 1927 in Jasper, Minnesota. Dorothy attended Jasper school, graduating in 1945. Following graduation, she worked at Rae's Café. On December 4, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to George Hulzebos. George and Dorothy farmed most of their married life, spending time in Lismore, MN, Adrian, MN, and finally in 1958 moved to their farm in Hoffman, MN. In 1990 they retired to their home in the city of Hoffman and wintered in Arizona for 28 years. Dorothy was active in Lands ALCW, serving as president and secretary. She taught Sunday school, and served as Luther League advisor. She was a devoted farm wife and tended to the needs of a farm family. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, crocheting, as well as puzzles, playing cards and dancing. Dorothy's bean soup and skinny pancakes were a family favorite. She and George made Fatchuten (a Dutch treat rolled in sugar) every New Year's Eve. Dorothy cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, George of Hoffman; children, Doris (Dan) Bertram of Richmond, MN, Robert (Diane) of Rosemount, MN, Jerald (Carol) of Hoffman, MN, and Gary (Kathy) of Hoffman, MN; 11 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; sisters, Jackie Duffy of Sioux Falls, SD, and Peggy (Craig) Ellman of Salem, SD; sisters-in-law, Susan Hulzebos of Buffalo, MN, and Ardyce DeWitte of Fullerton, CA. Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents, Jack & Helen DeWitte; daughter, Cheryl; brothers, David DeWitte, Richard DeWitte, Dale (Joey) DeWitte; brothers-in-law, Francis Duffy, and Pete Hulzebos; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hulzebos.
