DeMaris Coleman

DeMaris Marie Coleman, was born on March 6, 1934 in Breckenridge, Minnesota to parents Benjamin & Alice (Wilke) Mecklenberg. She grew up in Nashua and attended school in Nashua and Tintah. She was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nashua. On December 28, 1957 she was united in marriage to Samuel Coleman at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. They lived in various places before settling in Elbow Lake in 1961. DeMaris was active as a Sunday school teacher, release time teacher & Bible school teacher. She was also a 4-H leader along with Samuel. She was involved with the Homemaker's Club and Ladies Aid at Church. She enjoyed spending time at the lake, flower gardening, having coffee with friends, playing bingo and trips to the casino. She collected angels and especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. DeMaris Marie Coleman passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. DeMaris is survived by her husband Samuel, of Elbow Lake; daughter, Jane Gardner of Wendell; sons, Perry (Tammie) Coleman of Dent, Joel (Carla) Coleman of Elbow Lake, Jim (Chris) Coleman of Pelican Rapids, and Tim (Gayle) Coleman of Hoffman; sister, Sandy (Harlan) Haarstad of Elbow Lake; brothers, Curt (Marie) Mecklenberg of Clitherall and Bob Mecklenberg of Jamestown, ND; sisters-in-law, Carrie Ann Mecklenberg of Pine River, Ione (Jim) Goff of Benson, Janice (Dick) Nagel of St. Michael; brothers-in-law, Gerald (Gail) Coleman of Elbow Lake, Bob Wyman of Mound; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Rodney Mecklenberg; sister, Janet Bjugan and brother-in-law Gordon Bjugan; and sister-in-law, Ruth Wyman. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, June 14, 2014, at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake. Visitation: 5 to 8 PM Friday, June 13, 2014, at Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery in Elbow Lake.
