David Hayer

On Friday, November 8, 2019, David Roland Hayer, loving husband and father of three children, died peacefully and was called home at the age of 87.

David was born on January 9, 1932 in Boone, Iowa, to William Ethan and Oma Hayer. His family moved to Minnesota in 1932, and he lived the remainder of his life in the Hoffman area. He married Shirley Klaahsen in 1961. He lived on and farmed the same land in Hoffman since 1942.

He dearly loved his family, spending time on the farm with his children and grandchildren, and hunting trips with family. He had many dear friends and neighbors throughout the community. He also enjoyed his faithful companion, Warsaw.

David was preceded in death by his parents, William Ethan and Oma, and his siblings, Ruby, Howard, Bill, Margaret, Alva, Richard, Laurence, and Mildred. He is survived by his wife Shirley, their three children: (i) Genevie (Jim, previously deceased) and their children Sheila, Larry, Emily (Jason), David, and Kayla (Nick), (ii) Bill (Brandee) and their children Katie and Zachary, and (iii) Julie (Dave) and their children Courtney and Samantha. He is also survived by his brother Arnold and 5 great-grandchildren (Griffin, Braxdon, Brogan, Tobin, and Elsie).

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 211 11th Ave, Elbow Lake, MN at 11:00 a.m. Viewing and visitation will be prior to the Celebration of Life service from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. A light lunch will be provided, followed by a graveside service at Lands Cemetery in Hoffman, MN.
