David Danielowski, 86, of Kensington, Minnesota, passed away on February 17, 2026, at his residence. A celebration of David’s life is being held on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00 to 9:00 PM at the Kensington Bar and Café. A meal will be provided by the family.
David Lee Danielowski was born on February 1, 1940, on the family farm outside of Lucan, Minnesota, to Harold and Caroline (Rue) Danielowski. He attended school in Wabasso, MN, where he graduated in 1956. In high school David participated in track, and went to state for pole vaulting.
After graduation, David started working for the Lyon County Independent Newspaper as a typesetter in Marshall, Minnesota. He then went on to the Fairbault newspaper, and then the Star Tribune where he was a proofreader and set headlines. David was employed by the Star Tribune for 25 years. Since he worked nights for the newspaper, David filled his days by fixing cars. In 2004, he moved to the Kensington area and bought a farmstead.
David was an avid motorcyclist- even at 86 you would see him cruising around on his Harley trike. When he didn’t have the wind in his hair David enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and having a drink at his favorite local hangouts where everyone lovingly knew him as “Grandpa Dave.”
David is survived by his children, Janelle Danielowski, Eileen Wertenberger, Scott (Bridget) Jensen, Jon (Nicosia) Danielowski, Stephani Blehr (Bryan Bye), and Shana Stevens; grandchildren, Jack, Anna, Quincy, Simone, Jasmine, Cooper, Nicholas, McKenna, Jaden, McKaylyn, and Kellan; great-grandchildren Taylor Grace, Cooper Graham, Ayla Matty and Stanley Matthew; brothers, Clarence (Sandy) Danielowski, and Ervin (Raeanne) Danielowski, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Caroline; sister, Cheryl Hughes; nephews, Chad Nylen and Shannon Hughes; and grandson, Matthew Blehr.
