Corrine Mattson

February 13, 1924 — September 20, 2015

Corrine Mattson, age 91 of Morris, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Echumen Bethany Home in Alexandria, MN. Corrine Mattson was born in Urness Township, Douglas County, Minnesota on February 13, 1924, to John K and Lena (Egeberg) Johnson. She was baptized at West Moe Lutheran Church and confirmed at Solem Lutheran Church. She attended country school District #71 for eight years and graduated from Hoffman High School. Corrine attended technical school in Minneapolis and worked for the federal government in Minneapolis and Chicago for a few years. On March 6, 1948, Corrine married Gene Mattson in Hoffman. They owned and operated the Fairway Foods store and the Hoffman Super Market for many years. Corrine worked as a bookkeeper at Farmers State Bank and Hoffman Coop Creamery.

Corrine was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Messiah ELCA, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Good Samaritan Nursing Home Auxiliary where she served as a volunteer for many years.



Corrine and her twin sister, Carmen, were identified as "the twins" as they grew up. Family was always important while growing up on the farm but continued in town while the family grew to include nieces and nephews. Corrine thoroughly enjoyed hosting family gatherings and cooking for others, the more the merrier. She was a fan of sports with her sons and family, and she seldom missed the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins on television. Family camping trips were a part of summer life for many years.

Corrine is survived by her three children, Patty (Paul) Watzke of Morris, Steve of Alexandria, Paul (Sarah) Mattson of Morris; 7 grandchildren, Andy, Joe, Phil, Jordan, Jacqui, Sam and Brooke; 4 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Jack and Ella; sister, Joanne Arnquist, sisters-in-law, Harriet Johnson and Helen Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; brother, Conrad Johnson and sisters, Gudrin Ryan and Carmen Bjerke. Funeral Services will be 1PM, Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Hoffman with Pastor Nathan Thompson officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery, Hoffman Erickson-Smith Funeral Home of Hoffman is in charge of arrangements
