Bruce W. Halvorson, age 78, died unexpectedly at his home in rural Kensington on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
Bruce William Halvorson was born February 4, 1941 in Graceville, MN, to Carl and Clara Halvorson of Ortonville, MN. Bruce loved growing up on the family farm, attended Country Elementary School District 14 and was a 1959 graduate of Ortonville High School. He was very involved in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. Showing livestock at the Minnesota State Fair was a fond memory, and Bruce enjoyed attending the fair for the remainder of his life.
Bruce met his wife, Jaclyn at the University of Minnesota, Morris, where he was in the first graduating class of 1964. Bruce and Jaclyn married in 1965 and moved to Duluth, MN, where he received a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from UMD. Bruce’s career was as a High School Guidance Counselor, but his true passion was farming. In 1978 he and Jackie moved their family to Bruce’s family farm near Ortonville. Bruce was a true steward of the land; he stayed updated on the latest agricultural practices, participated in conservation programs, planted thousands of trees during his lifetime, and always looked forward to receiving the spring Seed Catalog. Bruce and Jaclyn retired on Jaclyn’s family farm in rural Kensington, MN in 2004, and continued to operate both farms.
Bruce is survived by wife Jaclyn (nee Ellis/Johnson), son Andrew Halvorson (Michele) of Little Falls, MN, daughter Sarah Halvorson Brunko (Jason) of Andover, MN, and granddaughters Siri (11), Annika (10), Kjersti (8), and Sabine (3 months). Preceded in death by father Carl Halvorson, mother Clara (nee Carlson) Halvorson, and brothers David Halvorson and John Halvorson (infant).
