Bessie Dahler

June 10, 1903 — February 1, 2012

Bessie Dahler, 108, a resident of the Barrett Care Center, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Barrett Care Center. Funeral services for Bessie Dahler will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 4, 2012, at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake with the Rev. Bob Toso officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Elbow Lake. Visitation is one hour before the service at church. Bessie was born on June 10, 1903, in Morrison, Illinois, one of nine children born to Nels and Hannah (Johnson) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Herman Public School. She received her teacher training at Normal School in Elbow Lake and taught school for two years. On December 20, 1927, Bessie was united in marriage to Leonard Conrad Dahler in Elbow Lake. They farmed in Elbow Lake Township between Elbow Lake and Wendell on the Dahler farm, which was a Century Farm, until retiring to Elbow Lake in1978. They were members of St. John's Lutheran Church, then United Lutheran Church, both in Elbow Lake. Bessie was actively involved in her church where she belonged to the ladies group, and her community, serving with the Hospital Auxiliary. She and Leonard were active with the Senior Citizens meal program well into their 90's. She enjoyed baking and sharing with others. Bessie's faith in God was apparent in her service to others. She had strong convictions and encouraged others to be at their best. Bessie enjoyed her family and they were very important to her. Survivors include her daughters Janice (Lee) Quisberg of Waterloo, Iowa, and Jeanne (Gary) Frarck of Pueblo, Colorado; and nine grandchildren: Jeff (Laura) Quisberg, Laurie (Stan) Evans, Tammy (Bruce) Hungerford, Wade (Karen) Frarck, Lynn (Charlie) Hickman, Colleen (Bob) Hollatz, Brian (Cathy) Quisberg, Keith Quisberg, and Jay (Michelle) Frarck; 19 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard, and her brothers and sisters.
