Ardell Bergrud, 96 of Elbow Lake died Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Ardell Sander Bergrud was born on July 21, 1924, in Heimdal, ND, the son of Sylvester and Anna (Gunderson) Bergrud. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and graduated from Maddock High School in 1942. He served with the US Army during WWII and was a lifetime member of the Wendell American Legion and the West Fargo VFW.
Ardell and Beverly Mae Burkland were married on November 18, 1951, at Beverly’s home farm, where she was born, by McVille, ND. They lived in various locations where Ardell was an elevator manager/grain buyer. They spent thirty-nine years in Wendell where he managed the Wendell Farmers Elevator, retiring in 1982. He worked one year selling elevator products, then started a part-time position for twenty-two years with the Grant County Veterans Service. They moved to Elbow Lake in 2011. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, reading and visiting, but most of all watching Minnesota Twins baseball, Minnesota Vikings and NDSU Bison football. Ardell cherished his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; three children, Candy Johnson of Elbow Lake, Vaughn Bergrud of Fargo, Denise (Richard) Belling of Fargo, and son-in-law Mark Klinkhammer, Alexandria, MN; five grandchildren, Josh Dahlstrom, Amber (Jake) Koehn, Chelsey (AJ) Ray, Alicia Klinkhammer and Samantha Bergrud; six great-grandchildren, Mason, Avany, Malakai, Penelope, Theodore, and Aspen; two special friends, Erin and Ben; sister, Elaine McKibben, Colorado Springs, CO, and by numerous relatives and friends. Ardell was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Anna Bergrud; daughter, Teresa Klinkhammer; and brother, Curtis Bergrud.
